In Algeria, resettlement services for refugees are mainly provided through resettlement programs run by a variety of resettlement countries.
Resettlement to a third country means that a person recognized as a refugee by UNHCR in Algeria can be legally resettled from Algeria to one of the resettlement countries on the basis of his/her resettlement needs and according to the resettlement criteria.
Resettlement will only be considered for individuals who have no prospects of return to the country of origin, or prospects to integrate in the country of asylum. Resettlement is primarily a protection tool and only refugees with specific needs, which cannot be addressed in Algeria, will be considered for resettlement. Each case is considered individually in light of its specific circumstances and needs, as well as the options available to address the specific needs. Resettlement places are limited, as determined by resettlement countries.
