In Algeria, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) alongside the Algerian Red Crescent (CRA) and help the authorities promote international humanitarian law ensuring that the basic human rights are respected.

The Algerian Red Crescent (CRA) provides support to people migrating, including refugees and asylum-seekers, victims of trafficking, labour migrants and unaccompanied children, and provide life-saving and life-enhancing services to the most vulnerable such as first aid, access to health care and other essential services.

UNHCR undertakes a range of protection and assistance activities through its Office in Algiers. For instance, UNHCR conducts registration for asylum-seekers as well as refugee status determination and intervenes in cases of detention. UNHCR also provides targeted assistance for the refugees and asylum-seekers with specific protection needs.
